Slow feeder bowl or lick mat: how to choose for your dog
A bowl, a feeding tray and a lick mat offer different ways to serve your dog’s usual food. Start with the portion you want to serve and the depth your dog can comfortably reach. The right fit matters more than choosing the most complicated pattern.
Choose a slow feeder bowl for a larger meal
The SodaPup Honeycomb Slow Feeder Bowl has deep food sections. It measures approximately 8 × 8 × 2 inches and holds about 4 cups. The manufacturer designs it for medium to large dogs.
Check the 2-inch depth before ordering. Small dogs and dogs with short, flat faces may find deep sections difficult to reach. Measure your current bowl and compare the dimensions on the product page.
Choose a shallow feeding tray when depth matters
A feeding tray provides food pockets with a lower profile. The Mandala Soft Feeding Tray is approximately 8 inches wide and 0.6 inches deep, with about a 1-cup capacity. Its soft TPE material and suction cups differ from the firm polypropylene Honeycomb bowl.
A smaller capacity may suit a smaller portion, but check your dog’s individual fit and the surface you plan to use. Suction depends on the surface and setup.
Choose a lick mat for a spreadable snack
A textured lick mat is a different option for an appropriate portion of spreadable, dog-safe food. Compare each mat’s dimensions, material and attachment features. A snack mat does not replace choosing the right bowl for a full meal.
Make the first session simple
- Use your dog’s familiar food and an appropriate portion.
- Set the product on a stable surface and supervise the session.
- Clean after use, following the individual product’s care instructions.
- Remove a feeding accessory if your dog chews or damages it.
Feeding bowls, trays and mats are feeding accessories rather than chew toys. Food shown in product photos is not included. Shipping and applicable tax are calculated at checkout.
